Spirit of Peace is proud to introduce “Peace by Peace”, an educational training video curriculum that addresses youth violence. This unique curriculum was funded through a United States Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) grant. Two-hundred and thirty students participated in local PSN workshops that grew into a powerful, youth-driven curriculum on violence and its effect on the youth of our community.

SO WHY IS THIS VIDEO AND CURRICULUM SO UNIQUE? It is made for youth from their perspective, attitudes and participation. The video (supplied as a DVD) is graphic and honest. Youth see the results of violence and lesson plans guide youth who respond in their own “talk” about why violence exists, how it hurts their neighborhoods and what can be done. Recommended activities using ex-offenders, local judges, etc. really bring home the consequences that kids face today. Designed for local middle and high school students, Peace by Peace is presented in 10-modules including such topics as:

1. MUSIC, MEDIA AND MAGAZINE MADNESS
Participants give thought to the messages they receive from music, videos, magazines and video games.

2. HIGHER LEARNING
Participants see connections between lack of education and violence/crime.

3. WHAT’S UP WITH GUNS?
Participants discuss why they believe that youth are getting more involved with carrying weapons.

4. ON THE STREET
Participants assess the availability of guns on the street and at home.

5. GIRL FIGHT!
Participants identify the causes of increased violence among females.

6. IT’S A FAMILY AFFAIR
Participants recognize the impact of incarceration on the whole family.

7. LOCKED UP AND LOCKED DOWN “BEEN THERE/DONE THAT”

9. SHAKE IT OFF
